NOAA and DOT Sign Collaboration Agreement on Climate Data Sharing

Administrator Spinrad highlights the need to make transportation more resilient.

Officials from the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, outlining protocol for sharing data between the two agencies.

Officials report that severe weather, storms, flash floods, and rising sea levels have caused American infrastructure to deteriorate much more quickly. This agreement allows the NOAA to more easily provide the Transportation Department with the environmental information necessary to implement more accurate response and prevention methods for bridge, road, and rail stability.

“There is an urgent need to make our transportation infrastructure more resilient to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather now and in the future,” said NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad. “Investing in resilience, through partnerships like this one with DOT, will undoubtedly result in improved safety and savings over time through lower costs and reduced disruption to travel and supply-chains.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Spinrad to be discerning as he assesses the impact of climate on the nation’s infrastructure.
  • For Secretary Buttigieg and transportation officials as they evaluate the necessary repairs to bridges, roads, and railways.
